Philo Farnsworth Inventor of Television I'd bet that not one person in 100 knows who invented television. It was a teenage boy named Philo T. Farnsworth who came up with the design back in 1922. Here he is on I've Got A Secret in 1957. His secret stumps the panel.

He certainly was an ingenious little devil. At the age of 12, he built an electric motor and produced the first electric washing machine his family had ever owned!

From what I know of Philo Farnsworth, one morning his mind was wandering during a high school science class. He made a sketch of a crude television system. His teacher seized the drawing but looked at it out of curiosity. The teacher saw there was no reason it shouldn't work.
