ABC Network Promo for 1966 A promotional spot using the female leads of three ABC Thursday night sitcoms: Bewitched, Love On A Rooftop, and That Girl. (I had never heard of Love On A Rooftop. I looked it up; it lasted just one season.)

I'm puzzled by this clip. They refer to the 'second season.' 1966-67 would have been Betwitched's third season. Love on a Rooftop lasted just one season. This was also the first season of That Girl. Maybe 'second season' refers to a mid-season time slot shift. Does anyone know?

I remember Love On a Rooftop with Judy Carne....though it wasn't...memorable that is. On the other hand, Marlo Thomas and Elizabeth Montgomery were wonderful!! Have you seen Marlo recently? She does alot of work for Lifetime movies, and looks great!

Just for you Lava, Love on a Rooftop premiered on September 6, 1966 on ABC and starred Pete Duel, credited at the time as Peter Deuel, and Judy Carne in the leads. Also in the regular cast were Rich Little and Barbara Bostock as the Willis’ neighbors, and Herb Voland and Edith Atwater as Julie’s parents. All thirty episodes of the series were filmed in color. Despite having better ratings than That Girl, another ABC series that premiered that year and went on to have a five year run, Love on a Rooftop was cancelled at the end of its first season. During the summer of 1971 (when Duel was starring in another ABC series, Alias Smith and Jones), ABC rebroadcasted the episodes.

Yep, Marlo was very appealing.

A friend of mine thinks the term 'second season' is a euphemism for summer reruns. Sounds like a reasonable explanation.

I hope this explanation about ABC's Second Season helps! The second season is in reference to the revamping of the second half of the 1966/67 television season. When Love on a Rooftop was failing in their Tuesday night time slot (against Petticoat Junction) ABC moved Rooftop to Thursday nights in hopes of getting stronger ratings for said Rooftop! The 8:30 sitcom was The Tammy Grimes Show and that was dropped just 4 weeks after it's premiere in '66. With Tammy gone that left a hole in Thursday's schedule. So ABC moved Bewitched to 8:30 and put Rooftop into the 9pm slot - thus creating the second season. Plus, the second season had nothing to do with summer reruns. I know it's a long winded explanation and some what confusing but I hope I could help:-)

Thanks, Frank, for the information. It makes sense now.
