Henrys dime hamburgers Remember when a dime was worth something? You could get a hamburger at Henry's for a mere 10 cents in 1961. Henry's was a chain of drive-in restuarants in the Minneapolis area. Ah, the good old days!

What a great deal! A dime for a hamburger, 20 cents for a milkshake, free lollipops for the kids, and a visit from Henry the Clown!

No kidding, I can remember going to Royal Castle in Miami (White Castle to my fellow yankees) in 1965 and getting their great little burgers for 10 cents apiece! When my husband and I were dating we would stop by and pick up at least a dozen at a time, they were really good! Now Crystals has the same size burgers that taste like wet cardboard, for 10 times that much.

I remember when McDonald's first invaded Canada in the early 1970s. their TV commercials advertised that you could buy lunch for under $1. (If memory serves me right, burgers were 35 cents, fries were 30 cents and a soft drink was a quarter.) Yep, that's less than a buck!

We had Henry's in Chicago. In fact it was three blocks from my elementary school.

One of the reasons that Henry's went down was that my father who opened up 160 stores in the Midwest in the 1950s left the company because his brothers didn't want to train the franchisees. My father was Charles Bresler. Choosing A Dentist for Dental Implants
