NHL Goalie Takes Puck in the Face - 1959 I posted this video in 2012 but I discovered its source was removed--so here it is again. From a 1959 Stanley Cup playoff game, Boston goalie Harry Lumley takes a backhand shot to the face from Toronto's Dick Duff. Lumley lost two teeth and was badly cut on the play. Men were men in 1959, though. The play continued as usual for about 30 seconds before Lumley froze the puck and headed to to Bruins' bench for "repairs." Lumley must have been a sight! Check out the horrified woman seated in the second row near the Boston bench: She covers her eyes!

The broadcaster was Foster Hewitt, who is a legendary figure in Canadian television and radio. Whenever a player got cut in a game, Hewitt said they were going in for 'repairs' as if he was an automobile.
