Nearly 40 years after it went off the air, The Mary Tyler Moore Show remains one of the funniest programs I've ever seen. The cast was terrific! Ted Knight nearly quit the show because viewers were constantly assuming he had the personality of Ted Baxter. 'People are disappointed when they find out I'm not an idiot,' Knight once told an interviewer who asked him why he didn't go out very much.

In my opinion Ted Baxter was one of the greatest TV characters ever created. He had numerous personal flaws. He was vain, self-centered, egotistical, cheap, and conniving. Yet he was still very likable. That's a tough combination to pull off--but Ted Knight did it!

Very well written show and the writers knew when to call it in the end.

Agreed. The Mary Tyler Moore Show won the Emmy for Most Outstanding Comedy Series the last three seasons it was on the air. I have all seven seasons on DVD. I watch the episodes all the time.
