John Denver Plane Crash On October 12, 1997, famed folk singer John Denver died when the experimental light aircraft he was piloting crashed into the Pacific Ocean near Monterey, CA. He was 53. This report of the tragedy comes from Australian television. Denver had many fans all over the world. He was especially popular in Australia for his environmental work in that country.

I did some research on John Denver. He was an experienced pilot but there's some dispute about whether he had a valid pilot's license at the time of the crash. He had a DUI conviction which was supposed to keep him from flying as well as driving. The crash had nothing to do with alcohol, however. From what I gather, investigators determined the plane ran out of fuel because the fuel stored in one wing was unable to get to the engine. The plane stalled, but apparently the situation could have been rectified. Denver may have overcompensated. I can tell you it was not a nice way to die. The extent of Denver's injuries in the coroner's report are not pleasant reading.
