Quark - Failed 1978 Sci-Fi Sitcom In 1978, as a mid-season replacement series, NBC presented Quark. It was a science-fiction comedy that was supposed to be a parody of Star Trek. Set in the year 2226, Richard Benjamin starred in the lead role as Adam Quark, the commander of an interplanetary garbage scow for the United Galaxy Sanitation Patrol. (Really!) Other cast members included comely blonde twins Tricia and Cyb Barnstable who played Betty I and Betty II (the latter was a clone of the former), and Richard Kelton as Ficus--a talkative but boring human-like plant. How could this show possibly fail? A pilot episode plus eight others aired before the show was yanked after the April 14, 1978 broadcast. Here's the opening montage.
