Whats My Line - First Episode Historic television: The very first episode of What's My Line from February 2, 1950 in its entirety. Despite having two really dull panelists, contestants with mundane occupations, and a mediocre mystery guest (New York Yankees' shortstop Phil Rizzuto), WML got off the ground. With a bit of tweaking it would soon be the best panel show on television.

This first show aired on a Thursday night. For a short time WML aired every second Thursday. On October 1 it was moved to Sunday nights at 10:30--a slot it occupied for 17 years.

Governor Harold Hoffman lasted just two shows as a panelist before he was given the hook. When he died suddenly in 1954, it was discovered he had embezzled $300,000 from a Perth Amboy bank. psychiatrist Richard Hoffman lasted three shows as a panelist. He later got into hot water in regards to shenanigans with one of his wealthy patient's wills.
