Louis-Roper Fight - 1939 During Joe Louis' long reign as world heavyweight champion, there weren't many quality contenders who could give him a good tussle. Case in point: On April 17, 1939, Louis defended his crown against Jack Roper in the challenger's hometown of Los Angeles. Here is the complete fight in which Roper was separated from his senses inside of one round. Roper's career record was a mediocre 63-43-10. No wonder the press began derisively referring to Louis' opponents as the Bum of the Month Club.

I think Stanley and Helen Roper were the original landlords on Three's Company. Jack must have been a cousin!

When I first started following boxing serously, Three's Company was in its heyday. I was amused to find out Joe Louis had knocked out a guy named Roper.
