Harpo Marx plays Take Me Out to the Ballgame The multi-talented Harpo Marx plays the most beautiful rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame you'll ever hear. This is from his famous appearance on I Love Lucy that first aired on May 9, 1955.

Very true, Teresa. I Love Lucy got some big-name stars to appear who generally did not do television: William Holden, John Wayne, etc. Unfortunately the success of these shows inspired other sitcoms to overuse guest stars to the point where it was no longer a novelty. (Check out the last season of The Odd Couple, for example.)

Harpo was so talented, both as a comedian and a musician,he was able to transmit his thoughts and feelings through his facial expressions and his mannerisms, without uttering a word. Only once did he actually speak. One day early in his career, he broke his stage silence when a fire broke out in a theatre in Detroit. I didn't know what to say, he recalled, so I just delivered the speech I made at my bar mitzvah. It quieted the audience until the fire was put out.
