Phil Rizzuto - First WML Mystery Guest This clip is from the very first episode of What's My Line. It aired on Wednesday, February 2, 1950. New York Yankees' shortstop Phil Rizzuto is the mystery guest. Longtime panelist Dorothy Kilgallen is recognizable as is host John Daly. The other three panelists that night were poet Louis Untermeyer, former New Jersey governor Harold G. Hoffman, and Park Avenue psychiatrist Richard Hoffman. The idea of having blindfolds ceremoniously brought out by pretty assistant Madeline Tyler was ditched after this one episode.

Maybe the two short-lived panelists named Hoffman should have been on I've Got a Secret instead of WML. Here's why:

After governor Harold Hoffman died in 1954 he left a note in a safe deposit box addressed to his daughter. In the note he confessed he had embezzled $300,000 from a bank in Perth Amboy.

Psychiatrist Richard Hoffman was accused of tampering with the will of one of his welathy clients--a descendant of financier J. P. Morgan.
