I saw this speech on TV when Miss Gish delivered it in 1984. I always thought it was terrific.

Her comments about silent films being universal reinforced my thoughts that talkies, in some way, were a step backwards.

She was sharp as a tack despite her advanced age. She lived to be 99 years old.
