The Dick Van Dyke Show this is from the episode "THE TALENTED NEIGHBORHOOD." Isn't that Ernie from MY THREE SONS at the foot of the bed?

Why on earth did Rob and Laura Petrie sleep in separate beds? It is one of society's great mysteries.

For the same reason Lucy and Desi and Danny and Maggy Williams slept in separate beds, the board of television censors didn't feel that family shows should show married people sleeping together. Let's see, then there was The Andersons, and the Nelsons, the Mitchells, Donna and Alex Stone...the list goes on and on. Silly wasn't it?
How did they explain all the children that were running around?? lol

If I'm not mistaken, the first TV couple to share a bed was Fred and Wilma Flintstone.

Yup Lava, I read that about two weeks ago.

From watching The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet episodes on the Internet, I can definitely state they shared the same bed in the 1950s--predating The Flintstones by nearly a decade.
