The opening 2-1/2 minutes of High Noon (1952)--including the Oscar-winning theme song composed by Dimitri Tiomkin. Terrific adult western shot in real time about a marshal who postpones his retirement to defend an ungrateful town from a vengeful bunch of killers. Now you've got my attention! What a great film! Gary Cooper, Grace Kelly, Thomas Mitchell, and a young Lee Van Cleef as a bad guy who eventually became the good/bad guy we loved with Clint in the spaghetti westerns. I'd rather talk about films than politics anytime. The only thing they have in common is they're both usually based on fantasy. lol
I always thought this movie was a great study in human nature. The townspeople were happy the marshal had made their town safe, but when it really mattered they wouldn't back him up at the critical moment.
