If I am not mistaken 007 did have its IFF on at the time of the attack which would allowed an easy Lock On or LOMAC.

What I most remember about this tragedy is that I began a college course in print journalism just a few days later. It gave the teachers a lot to talk about regarding news sources, bias, misinformation, etc.
