Mel Brooks, who won an Academy Award for his screenplay and This is the movie, from the screenplay...then in 2005, a remake of the movie came out with the actors from the play on Broadway, I was told!

Of the two version that were produced, I would have to say without a doubt that the '68 film with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder was the best!
