Paramount Pictures gave us this great classic sci-fi film, adapted from the novel written by HG Wells in 1898. Gene Barry as Dr. Clayton Forrester, gave an outstanding performance hiding behind some rather large framed Foster Grants, and Ann Robinson, played by Sylvia Van Buren, in the supporting role helping him try to defeat the invading enemy from another planet.

That was Orson Wells radio show that was broadcast the night before Halloween, Oct 30, 1938. The play was set up to where there were even frequent fake news bulletins warning the public that a huge flaming object had dropped on a farm near Grovers Mill, New Jersey. Wells had no idea that this would be taken seriously by thousands of listeners within the broadcast area. The broadcast also contained a number of explanations that it was all a radio play, but if members of the audience missed a brief explanation at the beginning, the next one didn't arrive until 40 minutes into the program.
