Branch Rickey on Whats My Line Branch Rickey, one of baseball's greatest minds, was a mystery challenger on What's My Line on September 13, 1959. Rickey had twice revolutionized the game: He introduced the farm system in the 1920s. He also signed Jackie Robinson to a contract, effectively racially integrating the major leagues. Rickey's proposed Continental Baseball League never got off the ground, but it did prompt the exisitng major leagues to grant expansion franchises.

As inevitable as tomorrow morning. Evidently Mr. Rickey couldn't count clairvoyance as one of his virtues.

Branch Rickey was wrong in his prediction very rarely, but he was here, as Sprucemoose pointed out.

He once predicted that some day racial issues in the United States would decline to the point where we'd start to wonder why there was ever segregation. We're getting there...

I noticed that Chuck Connors was one of the panelists which prompted the blindfolds. BTW, CBS Television City studios was built on the land that used to be the home of the Hollywood Stars minor league baseball team in the old Pacific Coast League. Their rivals were the minor league Los Angeles Angels which played their games at Wrigley Field (not to be confused with the one in Chicago).

Eric knows his baseball. Wrigley Field in Los Angeles is also where Home Run Derby was filmed.
