John Daly's praise of Moore was justified. 'Ancient Archie' was one of boxing's true treasures. He won the world light heavyweight title in 1952 and held it for 10 years before voluntarily relinquishing it.

This TV appearance occurred four days after Moor successfully defended his title with an easy knockout win over Canada's Yvon Durelle. It was their second encounter.

Their first fight, in December 1958 in Montreal, was an all-time classic. Durelle floored Moore four times but couldn't knock him out. Moore eventually rallied to win the fight. I highly recommend it for any boxing fan.

For years nobody was sure how old Archie really was. He claimed he was born in December 1913. His mother claimed he was born in December 1916, thus the three-year age discrepancy that Moore referred to here. Moore once joked, 'I must have been three years old when I was born.'

A few years ago a boxing researcher found Moore listed as a three-year-old in the 1920 U.S. census--so mom was right!
