Stuart Pearce Redemption PK It is virtually unknown in the United States, but this is one of the great redemption moments in all sports: Stuart Pearce's penalty kick at Euro '96. At the 1990 World Cup tournament in Italy, England lost their semifinal versus West Germany when Pearce failed to score in a penalty shootout. Six years later, when England hosted Euro '96, the England-Spain quarterfinal went to a penalty shootout. Despite the baggage from his 1990 failure, Pearce bravely volunteered to take one of England's penalty kicks. His reaction upon scoring ran the gamut of emotions.

South of Sunset - Forgotten Detective Show South of Sunset was a CBS detective show that lasted just one episode. Despite being heavily promoted by the network during its 1993 World Series coverage, South of Sunset was axed after its pilot aired on October 27, 1993. Some west coast affiliates never aired the show, preferring to stick with news coverage of the Malibu wildfires. South of Sunset drew an anemic 6.1 rating, believed to be the worst showing ever for a major network show's fall premiere. The detective show stared rocker Glen Frey as Los Angeles private eye Cody McMahon who partnered with and ex-thief named Ziggy Duane. Here's the opening of the only episode that ever aired on CBS.

Crystal Pepsi Crystal Pepsi was introduced to consumers in the U.S., Canada and Australia in 1992. Crystal Pepsi was marketed as a caffeine-free "clear alternative" to normal colas, equating clearness with purity and health. Its marketing slogan was, "You've never seen a taste like this". At one point Crystal Pepsi accounted for one percent of total soft drink sales in the United States, but the public soon lost interest in the clear beverage. It was quietly discontinued in 1993.

Youve Got Mail - Final Scene Ah, nothing beats a happy ending. This is the final scene of the 1998 Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan romantic film You've Got Mail. It's a modernized remake of a 1940 Jimmy Stewart-Margaret Sullivan film, The Shop Around The Corner, in which the lovers were pen pals. Set at a time when email was a novelty, Joe Fox (Hanks) and Kathleen Kelly (Ryan) begin a romance over the Internet without meeting one another. Complicating matters is that Fox's enormous bookstore chain is slowly pushing the small, beloved, family-owned bookstore founded by Kelly's late mother out of business. They despise each other, of course. An arranged meeting falls apart when Fox, who goes by the handle NY152, realizes his Internet love, whom he knows as Shopgirl, is Kelly. He does not divulge his identity to her, but the two slowly become dear friends once Kelly's shop is forced to close its doors. Fox sneakily and lovingly puts Kelly through the wringer before arranging another meeting at a New York City park. The final scene begins with Kelly awaiting the arrival of NY152 and realizing her Internet sweetheart is Fox.

Kirby Puckett with David Letterman Kirby Puckett was one of the most popular and talented baseball players of his generation. He played 12 seasons with the Minnesota Twins from 1984 to 1995, leading them to World Series titles in both 1987 and 1991. In what would turn out to be Puckett's final MLB game, he was struck by a pitch by Dennis Martinez that broke his jaw on September 28, 1995. Puckett was hitting well during spring training of 1996, but woke up one morning unable to see out of his right eye. Suffering from glaucoma, Puckett was forced to retire. He became an executive with the Twins. This appearance on David Letterman's program took place in 1997. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Puckett's final years were marred with accusations of violence, marital infidelity, sexual misconduct, spousal abuse, and other unseemly behavior that resulted in the Twins severing ties with him. Sports Illustrated ran an extremely unflattering cover story by Frank Deford on Puckett in a 2003 issue that chronicled his disturbing "secret life." Wrote Deford, "The media and the fans in Minnesota turned the Twins' Hall of Famer into a paragon of every virtue—-and that made his human flaws, when they came to light, all the more shocking." Puckett died of a cerebral hemorrhage eight days before his 46th birthday in 2006.
