Canadian Five-Dollar Spock Banknotes Since at least 2009, pranksters in Canada have been 'Spock-ing' $5 banknotes as an ongoing practical joke. The portrait on the Canadian $5 bill actually is of Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who served as Canada's prime minister from 1896 to 1911. Someone apparently realized there was a resemblance between Laurier and Mr. Spock from Star Trek. With a pencil or a black marker and a little artistic talent...Voila! You have a Spock-ed $5 bill! It is not a crime to deface Canadian banknotes, but officials at the Bank of Canada advise against it as it may make merchants reluctant to accept such bills and some people may find the gag disrespectful. Although there have been reports of renewed interest in the Spock-ed fives because of the recent death of Leonard Nimoy, the practice is doomed to extinction. The Bank of Canada unveiled a new-look $5 note in 2013 that uses a frontal view of Laurier's face rather than the more Spock-able profile. Moreover, the new $5 bills are printed on polymer--a surface which makes drawing on them more difficult.

Stump the Schwab Here's a clip from a game show that sports fans ought to recall: Stump the Schwab. ESPN featured their in-house stats guru, Howie Schwab, in a sports quiz face-off against an array of challengers. In the 80 total shows made from 2004 to 2006, "The Schwab" as Howie liked to call himself, won 64 times--an impressive 80 percent success rate. Stuart Scott, who served as the show's quizmaster, died on January 4, 2015 from cancer at the young age of 49. ESPN callously fired Schwab from his behind-the-scenes position at the network in 2013 after 26 years of service as part of its broad cost-cutting measures.

Taser Incident On September 17, 2007, U.S. Senator John Kerry addressed a Constitution Day forum at the University of Florida in Gainesville, which was organized by the ACCENT Speakers Bureau, an agency of the university's student government. Initially allowed to ask questions after the close of the question period, Andrew Meyer, a 21-year-old fourth-year undergraduate mass communication student, entered into a planned line of questioning and was forcibly pulled away from the microphone. He immediately resisted the campus security and was subsequently arrested by university police. During arrest, the officers asked him repeatedly to stop resisting, but Meyer continued to struggle and scream for help. While six officers held Meyer down[1] one of the officers drive stunned him with a Taser following Meyer's shouted plea to the police, "Don't tase me, bro!" The video became a popular viral hit.
